A'sakhane Stokvel Group

A'sakhane Stokvel Group was birthed through its intense desire to uplift, empower and educate its members. We strive to provide economic liberation through financial literacy and utilising the power and compounding effect of operating as a collective to achieve & do more

Vision

Our vision is to teach and empower members, equipping them with the necessary tools and a practical guide that not only facilitates the growth and prosperity of the collective but one that broadens their perspective and allows for empowerment and success in their own personal fincances.

Mission

Our mission is to establish and strengthen a bond through social cohesion and in turn create a safe and conductive environment where trust can be forged. We seek to connect individuals with similar and aligned saving and investment needs within the Stokvel paradigm.

What is Stokvel

Stokvels are essentially invitation only clubs with varying number of members serving as rotating credit unions or saving schemes in South Africa where members contribute fixed sums of money to a central fund on a weekly, fortnightly or month basis. Stokvels are essentially self-help initiatives designed to respond to the problems of poverty and income insecurity in communities.

Benefits of Stokvel

  • Pooled money can earn better returns, at a lower cost. Banks offer higher interest rates on bigger amounts and banking costs are lowered (Or in some instances free) if the amount is large enough.
  • Some added benefits are a sense of community and socialising. Stokvel members traditionally meet regularly and make an occasion of meetings.
  • You may leanr something. Some stokcles operate like investment clubs and invest in the stock exchange or companies. Members do their own homework, deliberate about which shares or companies to invest in and make investment decisions.
  • Knowing when you will receive a windfall amount makes it easier to plan your finances.
  • Reduces chances of savings being stolen if the money is moving rather than saving the money at home.
  • Joining a stokvel encourages saving behaviour. You may be able to develop better saving habits as a result of joining a stokvel.
